For ~ Poets United ~ Poetry Pantry # 199 ~ Passage to Gilgit ~ Land of the Naked Mountain

Gilgit-Baltistan borders Azad Kashmir to the southwest, the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the west, the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan to the northwest, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China to the north and northeast and the Indian-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir to the southeast.

Gilgit - Natures Heaven on Earth
in the Northern Mountain Ranges of Pakistan

Where beauty reigns supreme
where greenery carpets the valleys
and blue fills the streams

where Markhor's majestic homes abound
high above in cool sunlight they
bask in royalty on higher ground
where they are the symbol of bravery and sacrifice
perched proud in Gardens of Chinaar
with names engraved of martyrs of war'

where horses gallop on the beat of the drum
play polo and breathe in the weather's stum
where cool winds whistle and streams hum

where women are happy covered and capped
and men play sweet notes on flutes and clap
wearing peacock feathers in woven caps
where rivers are crossed by suspension bridges
where each step is a step on dangerous edges
but brave are those who abide on the ridges

where fruit of all colors is freshly grown
flowers cereals corn all are sown
cherries peaches apricots  well known

Where stands so grand  glorious and magnificat
as ferocious and powerful as Mighty Indus
9th Highest 'Killer Mount The Nanga Parbat

Gilgit we love thy scenic space
my father's birthplace so full of grace
sacred pure peaceful as Samothrace

NAPOWRIMO ~ Day 25 ~ Anaphora Challenge ~ I Dream of a Place of Peace ~

So today, I challenge you to write a poem that uses anaphora. Find a phrase, and stick with it — learn how far it can go.

I dream of a Place of Peace
But dreams are in vain
Time and again there is pain;
I was brought to a Promised Land
Created with killing, insane;
Where remnants of blood
Traces of flood,
Sensations of fear remain;

I dream of a place secure
Clean colorful and pure
But I am not sure
As I see
the flying roof of a bus
As I hear
the terrifying sound of a blast
OH how long is it going to last?
As I fear
One moment in time
May be so fast , before we know
And thus we are......no where, no more;

I dream of a moment of hope,
Of a land where I may be
And I may for eternity, stay;
Truer than any dream and I
With good grace and gratitude
Be happy for ever and pray.

NAPOWRIMO ~ Day 19 ~ O' Thou Spicy Triangular Nutmeg ~

Today I challenge you to take a look at the list of actual sea shell names below, and to use one or more of them to write a poem. You poem doesn’t have to be about sea shells at all — just inspired by one or more of the names.

O' Spicy Triangular Nutmeg

O Nutmeg  Spice sprouting from the
grand root tree
like sweet honey caramel to the core
some say thou art a sea shell but are you?
so red and not white or green or sea blue?
O Nutmeg nostalgia surrounds as I
float back in time to 'the little nut tree'
nothing would it bear, but a silver nutmeg
and a golden pear'
It was the King of Spain's daughter
not Clementine, who came to visit
'and all for the sake of the little nut tree'
I wonder if the silver nutmeg was spicy?
but for all the nuts it was special for
it brought royalty'
O Nutmeg thou art special too
On day 19 of Napowrimo chosen
from the silver tree to poetic Oceans

NAPOWRIMO ~ Day 24 ~ Bridges Built with Faith ~

Today, I challenge you to do the same (for one day, at least), and to write a poem that features walls, bricks, stones, arches, or the like.

I see from above, this land abound
only one land mass, one ground
open to view amid the vast ocean blue,
no line, no divide all in one stride,
all in one piece like a bridge,

linking all
brick by brick, arch by arch
curve by curve,edge by edge
unlike walls forsaken
built around lands taken-

wailed against sobbed with,
shot blindfolded before
innocent guilty or mistaken,
till ages pass and generations awaken,
they are blasted and broken,

bridges are links that connect
make way for  ease and defect
to safer havens and escapes
to greener pastures and landscapes

lets build more bridges
connect the rivers and the ridges
lets not shoot doves and partridges,
casting fire on distant lands
leaves us all stranded on bare stands

Earth shakes and many stumble
Iron stone  or brick wall
eventually will break and fall
But Bridges built with faith and truth
will remain to support in any domain.

NAPOWRIMO ~ Day 23 ~ Niagra Fortunes ~

alunecă pe-o stâncă-n
covorul de mușchi.
Semeață floarea de colț
printre săbiile ierbii.

Niagra Fortunes

Near Niagra Falls I was fortunate

to be, illumined and O Stunning and

colorful, the music sonata flowering

the cold paints, soberly

like icebergs

NAPOWRIMO ~ Day 18 ~ Rubaiyat '~

Who holds the wings straight?
keeping the birds floating high?
they with grandeur glide abide by
laws of unseen control and not defy

content with twiggy straws they nidify
I saw them happy and wished to stellify
I dreamt to fly over the world like a star
on ground words' the mind may occupy

is it Shaheen or the grand eagle in the sky?
Inspiring flights soaring to highest heights
Drown not in oblivion dance not in wine
Fly fly far far away’ your home is Light’ shine’.

NAPOWRIMO ~ Day 22 ~ The Better Poem'

Today's Challenge ~ A Poem for Children ~
From the Unpublished Novel 'Pencileeze Forest Mystery' Copyright by CER

Better to be in time than be a left out
Better to be on main than round about

Better to be on paper than on table
Better to be bit sharp than disable

Better a Tree than a twig
Better a fruit than a shoot
Better an apple than a fig
Better a seed amid the root

NAPOWRIMO ~ Day 11 ~ Anacreontic Verse ~ Immersed ~

be it red or white or sweet

bottled for ages hidden deep

Oh for a few drops to taste

just a little not  much to waste

just to sense the tinkle jingle

drown in as images mingle

let me be not so immersed

lest I be like dust dispersed

in sweetness may I there reach

unseen  love  in silent speech

where resides eternal sleep

pure emotions, heart may keep

For ~ REAL TOADS Challenge : Shape Poem ~ The Flowers Came

sat
 in the
terrace door
looking
closely
  at all the flowers outside
pink and white bowers
I said
how Nature brings Spring
all color to fresh new things
how lovely the flowers look
 fresh peace from The Book
I thought I wished I prayed
God listens to  our prayers
what if, the flowers  outside
if some would come  inside
and like a miracle
that manifests truth
by evening that day and in answer to prayer
a large bouquet, same color to share green beside
greetings sent by brother but I knew the true aside
The Lord Most Gracious had heard me as always
Most Merciful and  Loving  sent the flowers inside.

For POETS UNITED ~ Poetry Pantry 198 ~ Ah Old Harley Street, If Only You could Speak

Ah Old Harley Street, If Only You could Speak

Where art thou? With All Thy Grace and Treat

Where evening cool breeze would gently sweep

And the open spaces would be free and neat;

Where I learned to ride the bicycle and Greet

My friends who came out to meet-

Ah Harley Street! where art thou?

With memories sweet-

This same road where bell tingling tongas

With strong horses and shining leather reins

Would lift the learning loads and stay on the beat-

At that time, this same road was all for residents

No sounds, not even an innocent lambs bleat.

Ah Harley Street! where art thou?

So defiant in dilapidated defeat!-

YOU seem to be there still serving in retreat-

Though gone is the tar rubble crush and concrete;

Ah Harley Street . All is not lost.

Courage never to submit or yield-

YOU have the BEST on YOU

YOU are replete with –Institutes of Education

Tuition Guidance and Dedication-

But AH there’s the rub-

The cuts craters humps and dilapidation-

OH Lord, what are WE learning and teaching

in this precarious condition? That is the question-

Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer,

the slings and jumps of outrageous travel

The heart aches and

thousand natural shocks that the flesh is heir to-

Or to take arms against oceans of ditchy trouble..err. rubble-

And by appealing begging imploring

“Please Sir , may we have some more” Ah No!

Or by opposing clean sweep them….?

Who would bear the whips and scorns of time immemorial

The laws delay, the repairs astray, the rains decay ; AH SILENCE!

Do we continue to grunt and sweat under a weary life?

Or has conscience made cowards of us all?

AH Harley Street! If only you could speak'

OH Fair Poetess, soft you now , Ah There’s The Bump..OUCH…..

Ohhhhhh Cantonment …’Who’s There?????????

For POETS UNITED ~ Midweek Motif ~ Holy Days and Holidays ~ When Flutes Blew Notes ~

Holy Month of Ramazan has  gone.
When fasts restrain and make us patient
It trains in self negation strengthening belief;

Teaches the art of giving and forgiving
eating nor drinking, important is simple living
purifying body  cleaning spirit so sinning

This Holy Month is a blessing a celebration
a night's prayer equals thousand nights meditation
obedience tolerance solution solutions to solutions
but why
People are praying for peace and relief
from  social holy disturbances of disbelief-

This month is destined to end on a happy note
and it did- but not for all, today or tomorrow
There are now regions of sorrow-
Threats of shooting killing  blasting
OH There is Providence in the Fall
Of a sparrow-
Has conscience made a coward of us All?
What has Man achieved since the Great Fall
                                                                          or The Deluge
Made this world a Hell with No Refuge?
OH Where is The Heaven we Lost?
Ah at what price at what cost?
Gone ---
Gone are the Days of Peaceful sojourning
when flutes blew notes of  tunes so sweet
when words were words of love and treat
             when horses trotted on the cobbled street;

a lone policeman was enough on the beat
and innocent laughter filled the backseat
there was no winning losing or defeat
no charge no 'Forward March' or Retreat'

who is the Master ? Thief?
Who are we trying to cheat ?
I am no Queen of Itheca
                                                        nor the Goddess  Athena
I still have not made My  Pilgrimage
                                                         To Holy Madina!
I am in pain in my soul and spirit
A nation bleeds and will bleed

Captive Refugees  in  threatened countries
Call Aloud Oh Hear Ye People of The World
See, hear, read’
I too have a terror filled, uncertain, but

  a  Brave  Odyssey!

TIME Poems ~ Changes Tell Us the Time ~

Changes Tell Us the Time
 years that passed,
months that were happy and decent,
 days we believe were recent
moments sad and terrifying;
Changes Tell Us the Time –
So much is lost- which I called mine;
 laughter, giggles and  shrieks-
silent heads down and 'stand in line',
 innocent pensive silences,
 standing and talking against fences,
Changes Tell Us the Time,
In moments captured in pictures,
outlook fronts and fixtures
black and white color mixtures,
Changes Tell Us the Time
AH Changes tell us the innocent
unknowing mistakes we made
How much a symbol inspired
caused pain in the shade?
Changes Tell Us- Its Time,
Age, Beauty that must fade
Earth dug and ready
where bodies must be laid,
Ah Innocent One, cut me no more
 for I bleed inside
For my errors and sins,
I am paying and have paid.

For Poets United ~ Verse First ~ Gifts and Blessings ~

we never realize the gifts we get
clouds rain sun and light
we believe all things are set
water heat cold warmth of night
daylight dawns, reveals all out of sight

Nature created nature loves us all
Nature has blessed with gifts uncountable
we are oblivious still after the Fall
Our Lord oft forgiving our sins unforgivable
we need to obey,believe unseen, the invisible;

sounds sights letters words in verse
gifted life gifted love gifted songs
words in poems lifted the curse
erased all pain cured all wrong'
first verses gifted, lead to Heaven along'

and I know when the call comes from the sky
there I see the crown in the cloud
blessing all gifts forgiving all up high
the message is clear the message is loud
Be grateful be happy peaceful but not proud.

For Poets United ~ Poetry Pantry 197 ~ Roadside Royal Sale ~

On seeing this roadside carpet sale point in the capital city Islamabad

O'Thou Persian Attraction
patterned  in chain and bands
manifest in threaded culmination
colors from Arab and Spanish sands
immersed in royalty grand

who has made thee O' Zilu'
what fingers hands and mind
what magic fills the twisted wool
O' Thou of Qaliche' or Gelim kind
seeing thou here? a great find'

whither palaces castles flying rugs
lamps that called the genii to serve
thieves rogues merchants or thugs
nothing but carpets' a must preserve'
who is best to this art'  deserve?

For POETS UNITED ~ Poetry Pantry #197 ~ The Road in the Greens ~

Inspired by a  recent visit to a Hill Station in the Northern Areas of Pakistan ~

It did not look like
the 'road not taken'
nor did it seem untrodden
though silently deserted,
cranky voices of travellers
mumbling, walking slowly,
some with sticks
some with bags
clothes tattered, soiled like rags
what wanderers, gypsies
or knights are these, perhaps
disguised, going where?
to unknown inns and places,
who will find the real traces
of cart and carriage wheels
dug deep ruts in mud and mire,
who will know Ye Olde Captain
smelling of rum and whiskey?
in strange attire-patriotic spirit afire
what sweet whistles and jingles
of keys and songs are these?
what rustling of maps and tinkles
of coins, of silver and gold
dusty and crumpled but preciously
held, as sonorously they stumble-
forward determined, some on horses,
like amblers, no racers, no hurry no worry,
they move and giggle n g rumple,
no heroic braves may know
this was the way to go-

now all is quiet, steeped
in solitude, fresh and green
the scene changed from seen
to unseen,
 was this the road
that saw ten thousand men?
who brought grand glory

to Ye Olde Nations'

~ NAPOWRIMO ~ Day 8 ~ Silver Dust to Golden Crust ~

Today, let’s rewrite a famous poem.

 Pear Tree      by     Hilda. Doolittle
Silver dust

Golden Crust
spread on ground
all approachable under my feet
you have lain
O Golden Crust
all approachable under my feet
what more do you have beneath?

all plants colored grow
tenderly broken by a blow
no leaves ever in white show
though all from golden crust glow

O Golden Crust
your stone gems
studded embedded in black
bring winter fire hotly back
with warm ashy stems.

Day 9 ~ NAPOWRIMO ~ Money Comes Money Goes ~

Today’s prompt was suggested by Bruce Niedt. Here’s Bruce’s explanation: take any random song play list (from your iPod, CD player, favorite radio station, Pandora or Spotify , etc.) and use the next five song titles on that randomized list in a poem.

My favorite Radio Station City FM 89 Islamabad

Money Comes Money Goes
Money on my mind
life has been kind
But the man quite thankless
has he made the world a mess?
Is anyone really happy
I keep thinking
which is the best day of my life?
would life for real money take a turn?
or are we destined to be in Hell and burn'

Song Titles: Money on my mind, the man, happy, best day of my life, burn.

For POETS UNITED ~ Midweek Motif ~ Distractions, or Stops Along the Way

Today I invite poems about surprises in the best-laid plans--or detours you wish you had planned or prevented.  Or the affect of days of rest and holiday on the main dish of life. Distraction?  Rest?  Or a Better Way?

I traced some patterns in life
and looked at them for long,
thought they were strong
in design color and length,
But I was told I was wrong-

I drew some lines
in symbols shapes and signs
erased and drew again
till my fingers grew numb
and my wrist cried 'pain'
I believed all was bright
But I was told I was not right-

I gathered some letters
and arranged them in words
I read them over and over
I thought I had the idea
from under the dark cover
but someone knew better
and I was entangled
in iron fetters-

I passed some innocent smiles
being told to be nice
polite and mannered
well,
I thought I was human,held
Truth and Prayer as my weapon,
But I was dragged away for miles
and forced to pay a  price-

I collected some pictures
all plain and blank
no patterns or lines nor words
or designs, with soundless motions
no thoughts or notions
as hard as stone,
as thin as a bone
as quiet as a mouse
I lived-in the house.

I was thus the better,
good and best,
till the moment when
emotions were no longer manifest
silent smiles in the gabfest'
surrendering stage to  gold crest
All then was peaceful,at rest
no hurry worry or rush

and I had the happy wonderful distraction
a game of all games, I was saved, blest
for I wrote poems and played candy crush'

~ NAPOWRIMO ~ Day 7 ~ A Love Poem ~ My Dear Precious Pencil ~

Today’s prompt is to write a love poem, but the object of the poem should be inanimate.

O' My Dear Perceptional Pencil
How can I deny My love,

Without you
 I cannot write nor reply

I look for you all the time
I hold you to even draw a line
I move you to form new words
I keep you and hold you close
I smile to myself when I see you lie
And if I ever lose you I cry,

O' My Precious Personal Pencil
Without you I cannot rely, I know not
where and when the words may fly'
O' The writing and the written world
 You  gracefully elegantly unfold;
Making it possible for all tales untold
To see the myths legends fables of old
And the note' the words of gold
In silver bronze embossed or bold
You make me feel warm in the cold

O' Most  Dear Precious  Pencil
under my pillow you sleep
where from time to time I peep
you are there, then I am at peace
I Have you, I buy, to hold, to keep,
you can never be given or taken away
You will forever stay with me
 my notebook sketchbook and diary
you make me strong
you make me bold
 you cannot be sold.
