This photograph was taken in the 1950s
in the city of Rawalpindi Pakistan.
My graceful Mother wearing the traditional Eastern dress
called'Gharara suit' with her head covered with a 'Dupatta''
draped around the shoulders.
Such dresses are not part of normal dress wear
in Pakistan. They are now mostly worn by brides
but that style has also changed and it is a
matter of choice.

I can only echo what the others say. Thank you for showing this picture of your lovely mother. I also read your Nottingham poem (the place of my birth) and I’ve never seen such an ode to its delights before. Well done.

This is a truly lovely photo ... old traditions are a bit like the glue from one generation to another, your mother is beautiful.
The photograph gives such a feeling of sheltering from the hot sun in the shade of that vegetation-festooned building. I wonder whether it was a residence or something else? Great image, thank you, and I look forward to seeing more contributions by you at Sepia Saturday.
Thank You Mr Payne.I am honored.I shall surely, contribute. The photograph shows a residence. The steps are in the front of a small three bedroom house located on what we call Jhelum Road, part of The Historic Mall Road in the Rawalpindi Cantonment,of Pakistan
